Joseph Zbukvic Watercolors

This page courtesy of Joseph Zbukvic , one of the finest master watercolor painters in the world; his watercolor painting instruction workshops sell out wherever he travels.

Joseph began his painting career in 1978 and quickly became one of Australia’s finest artists. Born in Zagreb, Croatia, Joseph immigrated to Australia when he was eighteen and has since won over 200 international awards with over 40 solo exhibitions in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, London and San Antonio.
Joseph is a highly skilled artist who has the ability to create a magical atmosphere and mood in his paintings. Joseph is a strong believer in the benefits of painting on location. “My interest in painting began at a very early age. I grew up on a small farm in Europe where most of the work was done manually and in harmony with nature. I still find the landscape produced by this fine balance, the favourite subject for my paintings.” Joseph exhibits a clarity of depiction and a faithful exactness to his subject matter tapping skillful drawing, masterful structural understanding and a remarkable watercolour technique to capture the enduring yet enigmatic tapestry of living.
Joseph is a member of the Victorian Watercolour Society and was its vice president from 1991 to 1994. He is a long-serving member of the Twenty Melbourne Artists’ Society and Australian Watercolour Institute. Joseph also teaches at Charles Sturt University and the Mitchell School of Arts.

Another great watercolorist. Linda Kemp is the author of the #1 bestselling watercolor book:
Watercolor Painting Outside the Lines
a positive approach to negative painting
Some images from her book as show on Amazon.com here
Her approach to the watercolor paintings, that I found on her site, is in some way inverted: she work on the background leaving the foreground emerging on top while she’s painting around the main shape. The resulting images are fantastic, intriguing and misteriouses. I’ll definitively must try this tecnique.
Stephen Harby – Sketching Architecture

Sketching Architecture
My work in the medium of watercolor began during a year of travels made possible by a sabbatical from the office where I worked as an architect for fifteen years. These travels were a quest for what I came to see as the essence of architecture: an understanding of how a highly sophisticated and organized armature can give focus, order, and meaning to the experience of a place, and indeed to our existence as human beings. The elements of this armaturewhich include scale, proportion, color, light, and meaningI found to be best experienced and understood through the extended contact with them gained through sketching and watercoloring.
When one is obliged to remain in one spot for longer than the snap of a shutter, sketching or painting with patience and concentration, one gains a sense of total immersion, not only visually, but through the sounds, smells, and (most rewardingly) tastes that a prolonged stay in these favorite places makes part of the experience.

Eric Fischl Watercolours

Un altro grande artista che utilizza l’acquarello in maniera creativa:
http://www.ericfischl.com/works_on_paper/watercolor/html/watercolors.html
Born in New York City in 1948, Eric Fischl grew up in the suburbs of Long Island , his parents having moved there shortly before his second year.”Safer place to raise a family”, they used to say. Against a backdrop of alcoholism and a country club culture obsessed with image over content, Fischl became focussed on the rift between what was experienced and what could not be said. Until the late 70’s, suburbia was not considered a legitimate genre for art. With his first New York show at the Edward Thorp Gallery, epithets like “psycho-sexual suburban dramas” became velcroed to his disturbing images of dyfunctional family life.
Fischl began his art education in Phoenix, Arizona where his parents had moved in 1967. First at Phoenix Junior College, then a year at Arizona State University, and finally getting his BFA in 1972 at the recently opened California Institute of the Arts in Valencia,California. After graduation he moved to Chicago where he worked as a guard at the Museum of Contemporary Art. It was in Chicago that Fischl was exposed to the non-mainstream art of the Hairy Who. “The underbelly, carnie world of Ed Paschke and the hilarious sexual vulgarity of Jim Nutt were revelatory experiences for me.”, Fischl has said. In 1974, he got a job teaching painting at the highly touted Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. It is there that he met his future wife, the painter, April Gornik. In 1978 they moved to New York City where they continue to live and work.

Composizione: La regola aurea
feb 25

I have been doing landscapes for a long time. Almost 15 years….thats from when I started.
First I used to do from photos and then with time and introduction to my Guru I started going out to paint on locale.
But one thing is marked in my works….and that was by others before I found out…a use of different angle of view than normal landscape painters. Usually a landscape is done with what is called in photographic terms as normal lens view. I always look either with wide angle view or a telephoto view. Thats my way of looking at things….and artist paints the way he sees.
The series of works in this landscape series are sample of largly wide angle view….with few telephoto added for the spice. Done both on locale and in studio, they depict Konkan and Ladakh.
I suppose they are some of my best works from last few years.
